Ellie McDoodle: Best Friends Fur-Ever is out in stores now! I bought
it on the

and buy
my book on its laydown date.

We have a cover! And I am thrilled.

From my agent's website:
Ellie McDoodle is being published in Korea!
"A whole chorus of congratulations for Ruth McNally
Barshaw, who's been a magnet
for good news lately! Not only is her latest Ellie McDoodle book slated for
release
this summer (see the just-finished cover, above!), but the first two Ellie
books,
Have Pen Will Travel and New Kid in School will soon be available in South
Korea!
Publisher Jangsoohanulso will release them in the next 18 months.
We can't wait to see how these unique "sketch-journals" look in a different
language!
If that's not enough, New Kid in School is one of eight titles
nominated for the 4th
and 5th grade category of the 2010-2011 Great Lakes Great Books Award, chosen
by
readers in Ruth's home state of Michigan. Congratulations, Ruth!

Ellie McDoodle has been picked up by Scholastic Book Clubs this year!
Look for Ellie McDoodle in those little flyers that teachers hand out:
New Kid in School in the fall, and Have Pen, Will Travel in spring.
I'm thrilled -- this means more readers will be introduced to my books.

Ellie McDoodle is nominated for the Young Hoosiers Award in Indiana
and
2010-2011 Great Lakes, Great Books Award in Michigan.

Ellie McDoodle: Have Pen, Will Travel is one
of 6 books nominated for the 2010
Beverly Cleary Children's Choice Awards.
Information on the
award here. Children will
read the nominated books and vote in March/April 2010 for their favorite
among them.
I'm thrilled with the nomination. Beverly Cleary was my favorite author when
I was a
kid; I read as many of her books as I could get my hands on. I suffered through
the
school play and the terrible monkey dress and the awful beet, with Ellen
Tebbits.
I wished I had a dog like Ribsy. I felt I had a sister like Ramona. I
<3 Beverly Cleary.

Quote from a Publisher's Weekly article on bandwagon books and the
Diary of a Wimpy Kid phenomenon:
The problem is not the diary format itself. Booksellers cite past journal-style
successes
such as Meg Cabot's Princess Diaries and the more recent Ellie McDoodle series
by
Ruth McNally Barshaw. "You're basically telling a story through a child's
eyes," said
Kenny Brechner, owner of Devaney Doak & Garrett Booksellers in Farmington,
Me.
He calls the Ellie McDoodle series "fantastic, original," despite the similar
diary format.
"The more the merrier, as long as the quality of writing is still there,"
said Heather
Doss, children's merchandise manager for Bookazine. "There's no point in
putting out
books that the kids are going to look at and roll their eyes. Kids are very,
very smart.
They know when they're being taken advantage of." -- written by Karen Springen
