This STILL isn't a very good likeness of Tomie... next page is better...
(But this is the last from that day)
And by the time I got in line for an autograph, Tomie acted like
he knew me. He urged me to attend the SCBWI Conference in NYC,
coming up in a couple months. I said I would -- and all the way
home I wondered how I was going to afford it.
Tomie wasn't signing anything more than his name that day
because he'd recently had rotator cuff surgery.
But he signed my sketchbook with a nice message. :)
